The Emergency Department is a nine (9) bed unit with Fast Track coverage during the peak hours of the day. The department is designed to provide emergency care services to patients of all ages.
Patient conditions presenting to the ED relate to trauma, orthopedic, cardio-vascular, respiratory, obstetrics, gynecologic, neurologic, abdominal and genitourinary conditions.
For FY2017, we are averaged 1,0198 patient visits per month.
Patient acuity in the ED is measured from Level One (highest acuity) to Level Five (lowest acuity). The majority of Fitzgibbon Hospital ED patients triaged between Level three and five. Patients are seen on the basis of the severity of their illness or injury, and not on the time they arrived in the ED.
Approximately 1,700 ED patients were admitted for acute care services in FY2017. Of those, 14% are admitted to Fitzgibbon Hospital while an additional 4% are transferred for tertiary care services.
