Fitzgibbon Hospital has announced the addition of two new providers specializing in orthopedics and sports medicine who will begin seeing patients on Mondays, starting January 4, 2016, in the Marshall Orthopedics and Sports Medicine clinic at Fitzgibbon Hospital.
Richard White, M.D., is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with fellowship training in orthopedic sports medicine. For the last 10 years, he was an attending physician and assistant professor of Clinical Orthopedic Surgery at University Hospital in Columbia, Mo. He completed his fellowship in orthopedic sports medicine at Baylor Sports Medicine Institute in Houston, TX. Dr. White earned his medical degree at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Shriner's Hospital in St. Louis, Mo., and University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia.
Dr. White’s sports medicine experience includes service as a team physician for the Houston Astros baseball team, the Houston Texans football team, and the teams at the University of Houston, University of Missouri-Columbia and Stephens College in Columbia.
"We are excited about the addition of Dr. White joining our medical team. He is a high caliber person and physician. As we continue our work to improve access to care, orthopedics and sports medicine continues to be an emphasis for us. Dr. White has a proven track record of providing excellent patient care, and his knowledge and experience will be a great addition to Dr. Kelly Ross and Physician Assistant Miles Romney at Marshall Orthopedics and Sports Medicine," said Darin Haug, D.O., President and CEO of Fitzgibbon Hospital.
Joining Dr. White is Carrie Lucas, Family Nurse Practitioner. Lucas received her master’s degree in Nursing-Family Nurse Practitioner focus from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2006 after receiving her bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Central Missouri University in Warrensburg in 2002. Lucas has worked as a nurse practitioner, with focus in orthopedics, for the University of Missouri Columbia Department of Orthopedic and Sports Medicine as well as at St. Mary's-Audrain Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine. She has collaborated with Dr. White for the last 10 years.
"Dr. White and Carrie Lucas will allow us to continue to grow our capabilities in orthopedic care and services in the communities we serve. Their training and experience in sports medicine will be an additional asset to our local communities and area athletes. We are extremely pleased to have them join Dr. Ross and Miles Romney," said Haug.
“I’m very excited to have Rick come aboard,” said Ross. “I’ve known him for the past 10 years, and I think his sport medicine background will be a great addition in providing quality healthcare and a commitment to caring for this community. Miles and I are both very excited to work with them.”
