In conjunction with last week’s annual Health Fair, Fitzgibbon Hospital unveiled its completely redesigned website. The website is mobile responsive, which adapts automatically to device size, whether you are viewing the site on a desktop computer, tablet or mobile device.
“We have found that 50 percent of our total website traffic is from visitors to our site using their mobile devices,” said Richard DeFord, marketing coordinator for Fitzgibbon Hospital. “This new website will be far more usable by our current and prospective patients as they research their options for their care.”
The new website was designed based on best practices for healthcare sites. For example, it features the “Find a Provider” link prominently on the center of the home page and a button for job-seekers. The tool allows individuals to discover local physicians. advanced practice nurses and physician assistants based on name or specialty.
“Our mission as a not-for-profit 501©3 hospital is to improve the health of our community. That includes improving access to care, so ensuring that our community is informed about the healthcare services available locally is an important educational aspect of the website,” said DeFord.
Additional features of the new website include the ability to create so-called “microsites’ for specific purposes like tracking of advertising performance and easy access to content. For example, rather than having a difficult URL for information regarding the Fitzgibbon Orthopedics and Sports Medicine team at the hospital, the website is able to direct people to Fitzgibbon.org/orthopedics for easy access to the team’s information.
The new website also contains quick access to the hospital’s presence on social media platforms, as well as direct access to the MyHealth Patient Portal, which houses important personal and secure health information for patients, Online Bill Pay, and the completely new ‘Job Openings’ page, where applicants can easily apply online. This is designed to simplify the process for prospective new hires. All of these new functionalities should draw more people to the website where they can actually conduct business as well as gather important healthcare information or find out about new services, providers or events.
“We had tremendous content on our old site, but many of the pages were buried deep beneath other pages. Sometimes you had to click multiple times to ultimately find the information you were looking for. With this new site, we tried to simplify the sitemap to reduce the number of layers, so that much of the information you are seeking is available within two clicks,” said DeFord.
Additional added features include a more prominent area on the site to find recent news about the hospital as well as an event calendar. Additionally, as individuals sign up to receive the eNewsletter, Fitzgibbon Hospital will eventually send out valuable information on a periodic basis to those looking to become more involved in giving back, or those wanting to make their health a priority.
